Keeping it dry, dry, dry!

Thank you for your website…it has been very helpful for me and our household.

I became aware of a crawling bug or mites in April 2021 after seeing several small insects coming in at night through the small crevice openings and cracks between the newly installed window air conditioner. Apparently, we didn’t install it correctly and didn’t seal the sides…thus ensued the upcoming war with these tiny almost invisible monsters.

Through trial and error, I have tried nearly everything listed on your website and more these past few months. They seem to have dissipated for the most part hopefully they won’t return again come springtime.

This is what has worked for me and my family so far:

  • For several months I tried all the oily products and other expensive items purchased online and found they were not effective. I finally decided to go the other route focusing on drying chemicals and products. Sulfur soap on the body & face
  • Walmart basic dandruff shampoo with no added conditioners. Head and shoulders dandruff conditioner with mint or apple cider vinegar.
  • Set up a spray bottle and fill it three quarters with 91% alcohol and 25% water and spray on hair morning and evening
  • clean feet with a small cloth soaked with hot or warm water & alcohol or used Gold Bond’s medicated foot powder
  • Gold Bond’s medicated powder on the body after shower
  • Used clean towels daily and washed all towels once or twice a week
  • Sprayed down the shower after each use with Clorox Bleach Cleaner Spray
  • For carpets, used Hartz Ultra Guard Plus Flea and Tick Carpet Powder along with Nature’s Creation Food Grade Diatomaceous Earth powder 50/50 mix and left for 2 hours then vacuumed. Used a regular bagged vacuum once a week and robo-vacuum between regular vacuuming
  • For floors, used Fabuloso with Vinegar-Apple scent multipurpose cleaner with a few drops of original blue Dawn dishwashing liquid and hot water once a week for kitchen and bathroom floors. Threw out soiled water into the toilet and not outdoors!
  • For laundry, use a scoop and a half of Arm and Hammer baking soda liquid laundry detergent for a full load, a drop of original blue Dawn dishwashing liquid, and some ammonia or vinegar in warm or hot water – rinsed twice to remove extra detergent used. Sometimes used Arm and Hammer liquid detergent with Oxy-Clean powder and baking soda. Found that the hot water temp in the laundry made little difference, no more effective. For the first few weeks washed linens & pillows daily or alternated clean linens until washed. Sealed mattress and pillows. Afterward began spraying linens, pillows, mattresses and the surrounding floor of the bed with the same alcohol spray mentioned above prior to bedtime.
  • Used alcohol or sanitizing wipes to wipe off the body when working or being outdoors and sprayed outdoor DEET spray on clothes
  • Sprayed yard with Permethrin which worked temporarily but Bifenthrin is more effective.
  • For pets, used Bayer Advantage Treatment Spray for Dogs and Treatment Spray for Cats once every 7 days.
  • Put flea powder in vehicle carpet & upholstery and left for two hours then vacuumed. Placed Hot Shot’s No Pest strips underneath car seat & trunk
  • Put clothes, papers, and files into separate enclosed plastic containers with No Pest strips
  • For possible ingested mites took daily multiple vitamin & garlic supplements in the morning and in the evening half glass of wine or a small amount of alcohol for medicinal purposes…not recreational!
  • Requested prayer intercession from St Jude (miracle worker) and St Anthony (Saint for all creatures.)

With sincere gratitude,

Rosemary
