Let’s start at the beginning. I’m Dutch so my English is probably not the best
My husband took home a bird who fel from a tree. We kept him in the house then soon a terrible crawling sensation started. I knew it had to do with the bird so we gave him to the animal shelter for birds. But it didn’t stop them. So I cleaned everything with chlorine. Then it was OK at first but a while later it started horribly, like a million of insects crawling on ouer body. At that time my kids where 1 year old and 4 months old. We all where sleepless and the kids where suffering. We all slept downstairs and we even went out of the house for a view days, they went with us. After throwing away the bed, the carpet floor and a lot of other things. We where all sleeping downstairs. But in the night it continued. We where lucky to move. At first it was a bit better and I thought if I wait long alenougj they all will die because there is no bird. I kept everything in diatomaceous earth, so they where in check but I think now they got used to it bc it is starting yo be bad again.y daughter got bite marks on het back and stomach my other daughter a little. In the night it is the worst. I’m ironing the mattresses and the couch it helps a while bit in the night they still come and torture us. There is really nothing to see. Even with 60x folt magnifying I see little dots but that can be everything I guess. I’d like to have a microscoop to see better and have some proof. I hope my hard work has effect. But even now at 18 o clock I feel them falling on me. My daughter is in bed crying and calling me, is it the animals she says au au. I don’t know what to do. My husband thinks I’m imagening because he doesn’t have them. I’m really hopeless.

I understand completely. I have been going through the same thing for years. I’ve tried so many things and spend all my time cleaning which really stirs them up causing bites and rashes. We have new windows ordered but will be awhile before they are installed. I have Ivermectin ordered that I plan to clean with. I’ve also read about Spinosad that can be found in Captain Jack Dead Bug Brew bought at Lowes and Walmart. I’ll report back if they help. A couple of things I can’t live without are sticky lint rollers. The bugs will stick to them. The other is Swiffer dusters. Noxema original has eucalyptus and is good to clean your skin with and bring some relief. Hang in there! They rarely bother my husband either so he doesn’t understand my torture. I think his skin is tough and his chemical composition is not to their liking. I’ll report back after using the products I mentioned.

Hi Dajamaan and Reasley,I have also tried diatamaceous earth and steam ironing/cleaning the matress . The D.E. has been dusted in the wall electric sockets and eveywhere else. It helped initially, but soon I felt like I was back to square one. Reasley, I also can’t live without lint rollers! They are the single most effective thing I’ve tried. I feel so sorry for all those going through this hell. Most of my life now revolves around washing, ironing and cleaning everywhere in the home. It’s not a normal life. Your poor kids, Dajamaan. Breaks my heart. I’ve had this for almost 4 years now, but a couple of weeks ago I went to a doctor who fortunately took the situation seriously. She gave me Ivermectin to take, I took it and the problem has improved 90 percent. I took a fairly large dose over 3 days (2 packs of 4 tabs) and I have one pack left which I will take in a couple of weeks time to see if it clears completely. Meanwhile I haven’t given up on the cleaning.
I had no bad effects from the Iverm4ectin. This doctor has also referred me to an Internal Medicine doctor, I have this appointment mid April.
The other reason I’m writing is because I found a small hand held vacuum which is especially for mites. It has also a UV light which only comes into operation when you press down on the machine into the mattress, sheets, duvet, whatever you have on the bed, so it’s pretty safe to use. UV light is supposed to destroy insects. I’m not sure of that fact. I’m using it for the sofas, beds, anything upholstered. I ordered it from Amazon. It does seem to help a lot. You only have to look inside the machine to see how much lint (and eggs) it picks up in the hepafilter. Having tried almost eveything else, I was also feeling hopeless. I had pest control guys come twice with no result, so I have been battling with this alone – husband thinks I’m imaging it too. Pretty common when they aren’t affected.

Guys, kleen green will help. I haven’t managed to get rid of them completely, I’m not sure what my cure will be as the bugs have taken up residence in my feet and I haven’t found a way to fix that yet.

But the kleen green will get your life back so you don’t feel them crawling all the time and the biting will be less.

Recommended Treatment Provider

We recommend you use a licensed professional to address a bird mite problem. Don’t wait or the problem will get much worse and more expensive to treat. We have a list of pest control companies that are specifically qualified to treat bird mites.

  • They come to your house for no charge and give a free estimate.
  • Even if you decide not to use them, you get free professional advice.
  • Most pest control companies have never dealt with bird mites before. You need to use a bird mite specialist.

Follow this link to find a Qualified Local Exterminator near you.

Keep in mind that if bird mites are not treated correctly, even if the correct chemicals are used, they can become resistant to those chemicals. Don’t use a pest control company unless they have extensive experience treating bird mites.

Also, many of our readers have followed up with (or used outright) natural solutions and pesticide-free, such as on our Treatments Protocols page Follow this link to that page.

Natural and DIY Solutions

In addition to local exterminators, we offer a list of other natural, non-pesticide and/or do-it-yourself products that we have found helpful on our Treatments Protocol page.  Follow this link to the Treatments Protocols page.
